FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN MY LESSONS?

We get this question often when talking with new students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know each students personal needs and goals , and then develop a lesson plan that helps them achieve their personal music goals.
At the same time we believe it is vital for our student to be able to speak and read the language of a musician and become skilled in core skills like:

  • Sight reading

  • Ear training

  • Performance

  • Improvisation

  • Composition

We do not treat each student the same in terms of what and how we teach.
A seven year old learning guitar for the first time, will have very different needs than a 40 year old piano student with past experience.
The main reason to choose US Music Lessons as your music education provider, is that we treat everyone as an individual, and are sensitive to the specific goals /needs of that person.
If you join US , we will work with you to create a personal practice plan that fits your needs and musical preferences . On the first lesson , your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish yours or your child’s musical aspirations.

WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC DO YOU TEACH?

We teach many styles such as rock, pop, jazz, country, classical , blues and latin.

ARE YOUR INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED?

Our teachers have received degrees from many respected music schools throughout the world , including Berklee School of Music , Musician’s Institute, California Southern University,L.A Music University, Arizona State and many others. All our teachers have extensive professional performance and recording backgrounds. In addition, we have instructors that specialize in working with children as young as 4 years old.

How often should I take lessons and how long should each session be?

For younger students and beginners, we recommend a 30 minute lesson once a week. As the student progresses, many people find that longer lessons really help the student to improve faster. With adults a 45 minute or hour long lesson is better .

What age is appropriate to start private lessons?

In our experience, 5 years old is the youngest we would want to start. This is usually assessed on a case by case basis. Often, we recommend our early learning preschool class to children 5 and younger.
